As mentioned before, Spirulina platensis is photosynthetic; a primary producer with red, green, and blue pigment (chlorophyll, phycocyanin, phycoerythrin) that help capture sunlight to undergo photosynthesis. With such a variety of pigment, often through photosynthesis the color combination causes the organism in mass to appear more mossy than green like other autotrophs who only have chlorophyll.
